There have been recent rumors suggesting that WhatsApp will introduce a third blue checkmark to indicate when a chat partner takes a screenshot of the conversation. However, this claim is false.
As most WhatsApp users know, a grey checkmark means the message has been sent, two grey checkmarks indicate the message has been delivered, and blue checkmarks show it has been read.
The notion of a third blue tick has resurfaced online recently, claiming it would notify users when a screenshot is taken. But there is no truth to this rumor. It has circulated many times before, and WhatsApp has yet to confirm such a feature.
The respected WhatsApp blog “WABetainfo” has debunked the claim, calling it “fake news.” According to the blog, this type of misinformation has been spread for years, with the intention of confusing or unsettling users. Similar chain letters have also falsely warned users about changes to WhatsApp’s privacy settings.
